Symposium location:

·         November 12 – Kyiv, 1 A. Malyshka Street, Hotel Bratyslava, 2nd floor, conference hall “Audytoria”

·         November 13 - Round table discussion on the future of the housing cooperative model in Ukraine: Kyiv, 24 Dilova Street, Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine.

Symposium organizers: Housing Initiative for Eastern Europe (IWO) jointly with Center of Competence for Major Housing Estates supported by Cooperative Housing International (CHI) and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, in partnership with State Fund for Support of Youth Housing Construction and PO Centre of Local Government Studies.

The Symposium aim is to give an impulse to a discussion on revival of housing cooperatives in Ukraine as a model for creating affordable and adequate housing and their use in state and regional housing programs.

Leaders of the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, the Ministry of Temporary Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine will open the Symposium from the Ukrainian side.

Gunther Adler, State Secretary, German Government will open the Symposium from the German side.

Guido Schwarzendahl, Vice-President of Cooperative Housing International will dwell upon the Cooperatives as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Eduard Kruhliak, Deputy Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, Serhii Komnatnyi, Chairman of the Board of the State Fund for Support of Youth Housing Construction and Anders Lago, President of Cooperative Housing International will tell about legislative regulation on housing cooperatives in Ukraine and international practice.

Representatives of unions, associations and federations of housing cooperatives from Germany, Austria, Norway, Poland, Estonia, Sweden and the USA will represent the principles and practice of work of housing cooperatives in their countries.

Volodymyr Brigilevich (Lviv) will take the floor with the overview on housing cooperatives in Ukraine. Speeches of regional representatives of public organizations and Ukrainian cities are expected.

Lutz Horn-Haacke, Director of KfW Office Kyiv will take part in the Symposium, as well as the representatives of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, International Organization for Migration, the Danish Refugee Council, diplomatic corps, Members of the Ukrainian Parliament,  people’s deputies of city councils, leadership of the Association of Cities of Ukraine.

-          Current situation of housing and construction cooperatives creation and activities in Ukraine,

-          Situation with new construction, when a developer uses the form of housing cooperative for construction and further selling of flats

-          will be discussed during Symposium.

Symposium Target Grouprepresentatives of housing cooperatives in Ukraine and foreign states, housing managers, public officials of the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, the Ministry of Temporary Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine and State Fund for Support of Youth Housing Construction that are responsible for legislative and practical regulation of housing cooperatives activities in Ukraine, leaders of NGOs, experts.

Round table discussion on the future of the housing cooperative model in Ukraine with the participation of experts from Ukraine and foreign states will take place on the second day of the event.

Joint Statement is planned to be signed under results of the Symposium work.
