In his speech, Serhii Komnatnyi, the Chairman of the Board of the SFYH, made a short excursion into the more than a five-year history of housing programs for IDPs, which were implemented and are currently in place in Ukraine.

On a systematic basis, IDPs can purchase their housing with the aid of the Ukrainian-German program "Housing for Internally Displaced Persons".

Under all programs, since 2017 (which is when IDPs emerged in the state housing policy as a separate category), the SFYH has provided housing to 1,768 IDP families. By the end of the year, this number will increase to 2,000 families, and the SFYH is actively working to achieve this.

At the same time, the SFYH's capabilities are limited only by the financial resources that the SFYH receives for housing programs from different sources, such as state and local budgets and foreign donors.

Serhii Komnatnyi also recalled the pilot project of providing IDPs with temporary housing. As a result, at the expense of funds for humanitarian needs, displaced families in four regions of the country received 60 furnished apartments with all the necessities. This helpful program should be continued after learning from the experience gained.

Mr. Komnatnyi also emphasized that the preservation and development of housing programs for internally displaced families also depend on the proactive position of public organizations.

An important initiative of the SFYH: the Chairman of the Board of the SFYH proposed that non-governmental institutions support the commencement of the influential international donor conference to attract funds to implement housing programs for Ukrainians affected by the war.

After all, providing IDPs with housing is a challenge that Ukraine will face for years to come.
